Since September, we’ve welcomed a new colleague to our Delft office: Roy Lammers! Roy (41) lives in Dordrecht and has joined us as a Business Manager Software. He’s someone with a unique life story, a good sense of humor, and a deep-rooted connection to Indonesia. Time to get to know him better!
From Dordrecht to Surabaya
“I’ve been married since 2019,” Roy begins. “Two months before Covid broke out, so we were just in time!” His wife is originally from Indonesia, and that’s not the only remarkable thing about their story. “My grandparents live in Indonesia, and their house is literally two streets away from my wife’s parents’ house,” he says with a laugh. “Every time I visited them in the past, I was basically right around the corner from her without knowing it.”
In 2009, Roy went to Indonesia for his studies. “I studied in Surabaya for six months and then did a six-month internship. My mother asked a friend whether she knew someone who could help me and my sister find our way around. And by pure coincidence, that person turned out to be my wife’s aunt. And that’s how the ball started rolling.”
Roy’s bond with Indonesia remains strong. “I travel there every year. It feels like coming home, the country of my ancestors, my family, and of course the food. Because food is truly a celebration there. And you basically live outdoors all the time, which I love. Just picking a mango off a tree and eating it. That’s a bit different here.”
Martial arts as a life philosophy
Outside of work, Roy has another big passion: martial arts. And it’s far more than just a hobby. “I’ve been training since I was six,” he explains. “My father is my sensei and trainer. I started with karate and earned my black belt after 10 years. After that, I got into other combat sports like kickboxing and muay thai.”
For Roy, martial arts go beyond sport. “It’s a way of life. The discipline, the calmness, the perseverance, you carry that with you everywhere you go. Every day is a battle, sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively. The philosophy behind martial arts helps me find balance and stay grounded.”
A new challenge
Before joining ENTER, Roy worked for four years as a Senior Recruitment Consultant in Den Bosch. “I really enjoyed my time there,” he says. “ENTER reached out to me on LinkedIn. My first conversation was with Wim, and it immediately felt right. I wasn’t actively looking, but I was open to something new. And once things started moving, I knew: this is the right step.”
Since September, Roy has been working at ENTER with a focus on software. “The 360-degree role suits me well. I like variety, connecting with people, and switching between different disciplines. And so far, I’m really enjoying it.”
He already feels at home in Delft. “Working with Gabor has been great. We’re open and honest with each other. If something can be improved, we just say it. Which is somenthinh I really appreciate. And we share the same sense of dry humor, just like with Jelmer.”
Chaos and balance
“My heart beats faster when the pressure is high—during real crisis situations,” Roy says. “Not that it needs to be like that every day, but in those moments I feel most alive. That’s when you truly work together as a team, feel the energy, and see what’s possible when everyone pulls together. That dynamic, that tension is somthing I really love. And the best part is seeing what you can achieve together.”
Looking ahead, Roy sees himself returning to Indonesia someday. “My dream is for my wife and me to have a home in nature there, somewhere on the edge of the jungle. Just sitting on the veranda, relaxing, everything in balance. Being able to travel back and forth between the Netherlands and Indonesia sounds like the ultimate life.”
Until then, Roy is diving into his work at ENTER with full energy. Curious what Roy can do for you? Feel free to reach out at roy.lammers@enter-group.nl or +31 15 241 00 15.
