Introducing: Jelmer & Jarek!

At ENTER we're not only interested in finding talent, but also in connecting talent. A good example of that are Jelmer and Jarek. Jelmer has been working as a Talent Sourcer for a little over a year now and during that time he has not only managed to make candidates enthusiastic, but also convinced Jarek to join the team in Delft! Now, two months later, Jarek is settling in well, and together they are finding new talent.

It quickly becomes clear that the men are good friends. An old-fashioned game of rock, paper, scissors is used to determine who answers first. Jelmer (26): “Before I started my Master, I did a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. That's also where Jarek and I met. I completed that course 2 years ago now.” Jelmer is currently in the completion phase of his Master's in Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. Continuing his studies is not something Jelmer really wants to do, “I'm kind of tired of school now. When I have my Master's degree I will stop with school and start working.” Jelmer is also definitely open to secondment, he says, “If they find something nice at ENTER then secondment definitely interests me.”

Jarek (25) may not have been a member of the Delft team as long as Jelmer, but he too is starting to find his place. Jarek : “I'm still settling in a bit. But it's getting better and better! I notice that every week things are improving and I am starting to find my place within ENTER more and more.” After earning his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jarek started his Master's degree in Environmental Engineering . “With that degree I have at least three quarters of the year left to go so I'm in the pre completion phase.”

Preparation is key

Both Jarek and Jelmer want to start working after completing their Masters. Their part-time job as Talent Sourcer gives them a good idea of the route they will be taking. Jarek: “The work we are doing now is going to help us enormously with the next step after our studies. We will both be looking for permanent jobs. That means applying for a job and that requires a good CV. With the things I am learning here at ENTER, I also know how to write a strong CV, what not to do but also what you definitely should do.”

“Socially you also pick up a lot here. In the market where we are about to apply, you do have an advantage if you know how to speak to someone. You also know how a job interview is conducted from the company's side, Gabor and Jim also guide us through that which is also helpful. This allows you to adjust your expectations of such interviews and prepare for them,” says Jelmer.

Free time

Besides working and studying, both men enjoy playing music. Jelmer: “Jarek is a lot better though, he plays on one of those horns in a band which is really incredible.” The band Jarek is a part of is the Groover Big Band, and it's not just a regular small band. Jarek: “I am a member of the Groover Big Band. On December 2, we had a big show for which we have been rehearsing a lot recently. That's actually my biggest hobby, I spend a fair amount of time on that as well. Every Thursday we meet with about 20 students to rehearse.”

Future

What's on the bucket list of the guys? Travelling! For one of them it looks slightly different than for the other. Jarek: “When I finish school I really want to cycle to Beijing. That will be a bit difficult with the situation in the Middle East, so the plan for now is to cycle to Istanbul. Jelmer was also interested at first, but we'll see about that by then.”

Jelmer explains, “I don't really have a bucket list. Of course there are still places you want to visit, for example I would like to go to Australia and New Zealand for a few weeks. I don't know if that's a bucket list thing. The only thing I do have on my bucket list is earning my degree otherwise it would have been such a waste of time.”
